Micro Adventures With Your Kids | Stillwater Photographer
One of my favorite memories with my Dad was going ice fishing with him, but this one time will always be the most special. He woke me up really early one Winter morning (duh, ice fishing is during the Winter), it must have been 1998, the Vikings were 15-1 and lost in the Championship, and the local corner store, Tom Thumb, was decked out in purple and gold and I got a Vikings cookie with the most amount of frosting possible and a hot chocolate.
We then headed to the ice house that was just in the next town over. After that, the rest is sitting in an ice house for a few hours with my Dad, but that little adventure sticks with me 24 years later because it was meaningful and so personal for my Dad.
A micro adventure could be an entire day to just 20 minutes. It’s putting that extra sprinkle on something that could make your kid’s day just a little better and hopefully a core memory.
Last Summer, we had lots of micro adventures, but this one sticks out most for me- GOLDEN HOUR SWIMMING at Square Lake
We went to my sister’s house for dinner and to hang out, but with a baby, their night ends around 7:00. It was the most beautiful of Summer nights in August. With Summer wrapping up, I wanted to add in as many adventures as possible with Callie going to Kindergarten that Fall. So without the kids knowing, I packed our swimsuits and my camera and after we left my sister’s we headed to the beach… at 7 PM :)
One of my favorite beaches for golden hour to shoot at is Square Lake in Stillwater. It almost felt rebellious bringing them to the beach “so late” for little kids, but it was so fun!!! We swam and splashed, Callie practiced swimming without her life jacket (most nerve wracking thing as a parent), and of course caught sunset.
I’m not sure if they will remember that little adventure we had, but I know I always will.
